Surgery

I specialize in General Surgery, working in the Greek National Health System since 1988, and my main areas of interest are colon and pelvic surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, gastric surgery and thyroid surgery. I have been Director of Surgery in the Surgical Department of General Hospital of Nea Ionia Constantopoulion - Aghia Olga - Patission since 2008. I am member of numerous Medical Societies. I have participated in hundreds of Congresses, with presentation of my work in 160, international in their majority. I have 111 publications, with 42 of them in international english-language medical Journals. I have been trained in specific surgical topics, such as laparoscopic surgery, thoracic surgery, pelvic surgery etc.

Colon and Pelvic Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Gastric Surgery and Thyroid Surgery

After Faculty of Medicine in 1978 he joined as an internal aspirant at the Surgical Clinic of the Faculty Hospital in Prague, in 1984 he worked for 4 months at the Surgical Clinic in Uppsala, Sweden, and from 1984 until 1992, a clinic assistant. In 1991 he graduated from a postgraduate surgical school at Hammersmith Hospital in London. In 1992 he habilitated from surgery (Friedly surgery in the treatment of choledocholithiasis) and until 1994 he worked as an assistant professor of surgery at the Surgical Clinic of the 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University). In 1994 he joined the IKEM Cardiovascular and Transplantation Surgery Clinic and after completing a four-month internship at the Virchow University Surgical Clinic in Berlin under Prof. P. Neuhause started a liver transplant program at IKEM. In 1997 and 1998, he completed his monthly study stays in Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and UCLA in Los Angeles. In 1998 he founded the IKEM Transplantation Surgery Clinic, where he worked as its head until 2004. Since 2004, when he was appointed Professor of Surgery, in 2005 he founded the Surgical Clinic of the 2nd Medical Faculty of the Charles University and the University Hospital Prague. For 4 months he was the Chief Medical Officer of the 6th Army Hospital of the Czech Army in Kabul (2008). Since 1 July 2010 he has served as Deputy Director of the Prague National Institute for Science and Education. From 12/2011 to 7/2014 he was a member of the Government Council for Science, Research and Innovation. From 1.4. 2014 is the chair of the newly established Agency for Health Research.

I am a specialist for ENT, in Spittal an der Drau, Carinthia, Austria, have a cash desk practice for ENT, and work as a consultant specialist in the hospital Spittal an der Drau. In the last 16 years, I personally performed over 8,110 surgical procedures. Continuing education is of utmost importance, especially in medicine, as there is an ongoing rapid expansion of knowledge. By means of permanent international training, I keep my knowledge and my technical know-how at the cutting edge. Based on the surgical standard, which did not seem sufficient for me, I developed a new method of gentle auricular surgery. This represents a milestone in plastic auricular surgery, as I get confirmed from many sides. Increasingly, this method is used on all continents - after personal training by me - application. I also have expertise in other plastic surgery such as nose, chin, face, eyelids and scars.

Professor Klapan graduated from Zagreb University School of Medicine. He has completed two postdoctoral studies from the same University (Clinical Immunology&Allergology, Otorhinolaryngology-Head&Neck Surgery) and his PHD (Zagreb University School of Medicine, and Eye&Ear Institute, Department of Otorhinolaryngology-H&N Surgery, and Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA) at the age of 30 years. He is the founder/director of Klapan Medical Group University Polyclinic. He has published more than 110 papers in reputed journals; citations/>450; h-index: >25; 14 medical books (7/Croatian and 7/English language; editor, author and co-autor); chaired and headed a number of international surgical courses and symposia (>300 lectures; invited lecturer/moderator/president/ USA/EU/Asia/Australia.

Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Mr. Fuan Chan MD FRCSI(Plast) is the first Chinese-descent Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Ireland. He is a fully accredited Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Craniofacial Surgeon working full-time solely at Blackrock Clinic. He specialises in skin cancer surgery, trauma reconstructive surgery, breast and cosmetic surgery including Asian cosmetic surgery, cleft rhinoplasty and cleft orthognathic surgery. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and completed his plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic higher surgical training through the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was appointed as a Fellow at the world-renowned Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, specialising in reconstructive microsurgery, craniofacial surgery and Asian Cosmetic Surgery. His outstanding achievements led to the offer of a one-year fellowship in plastic surgery (craniofacial surgery) at the prestigious Ronald Reagan Medical Center, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has also worked with many leading Plastic Surgeons who are affiliated to UCLA. He earned numerous awards and gold medals in plastic surgery at national and international scientific meetings with more than 25 peer-reviewed publications and delivered more than 30 presentations at plastic surgery scientific meetings in Ireland, Europe, USA and Asia.
